To stabilize exposure precision even during live view photographing in an imaging device capable of photographing using a mechanical shutter.
The imaging device includes: a rear curtain 12; a detection means for detecting passage of the rear curtain at an arbitral position of an opening part of the rear curtain; a rear curtain retaining mechanism 12 for retaining the rear curtain at an initial position before traveling by an electromagnetic force; a system control circuit 50 for determining an exposure period of an imaging element; a counting means for counting a first time T from cut-off of energization to the rear curtain retaining mechanism until detection of passage of the rear curtain by the detection means; an adjustment means 42 for adjusting control time from start of exposure of the imaging element to cut-off of energization to the rear curtain retaining mechanism so that time (T1+▵T:▵T=T0-T) from start of exposure of the imaging element until start of traveling of the rear curtain may become the exposure time based on the first time T, a predetermined second time T0, and the determined exposure time T1; and a control means 42 for controlling energization to the rear curtain retaining mechanism based on the adjusted control time.
