Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing lithium hydroxide having a high production efficiency by performing an electrodialysis stably and continuously at a low cell voltage without entailing electric conduction hindrances due to the generation of a carbon dioxide gas.SOLUTION: The provided method for manufacturing lithium hydroxide is a method for manufacturing lithium hydroxide by subjecting, to electrodialysis using bipolar membranes, a mineral acid lithium salt such as lithium sulfate, etc. wherein the electrodialysis is performed, within a double chamber-type electrodialyzer possessing in-between an anode and a cathode at least one pair of salt chamber and alkali chamber formed adjacently via a cation exchange membrane in a state where the cation exchange membrane is being positioned in-between two bipolar membranes, by supplying through the salt chamber a current while 0.05-0.2 equivalent of an organic acid such as citric acid, oxalic acid, etc. is being fed therein together with the mineral acid lithium salt, and wherein lithium hydroxide is generated by transferring lithium ions within the salt chamber into the alkali chamber.
