Abstract:
A runner fastening device is provided for holding a runner (400) of an umbrella at an upper position relative to a central shaft unit (100), and includes a spring catch (10) having a retaining region (11) and an actuated region (16), a retained member (21) moved with the runner (400) and having a retained slot (216) which extends to terminate at an abutment wall (217) to abut against the retaining region (11) at the upper position, and a sleeve member (22) movably surrounding the retained member (21). By mating engagement between cammed and camming surfaces (12,13; 224) of the retained member (21) and the sleeve member (22), when the sleeve member (22) is moved downwardly, the actuated region (16) is pressed against a biasing action to retreat inwardly to sweep the retaining region (11) away from the abutment wall (217) to thereby permit downward movement of the runner (400).
