To provide a technique capable of improving contrast of an EL display device for dispersing external light without giving an influence on a film width of an organic layer and restraining brightness of an organic EL element from being reduced.
The organic EL element 20 has a first electrode 5, an interlayer insulating film 8 formed on the first electrode 5 and having an opening, an organic layer 9 formed on the first electrode 5 by covering the opening of the insulating layer 8, a second electrode 10 formed on the organic layer 9, and an external-light decreasing film 7intervened between the first electrode 5 and interlayer insulating film 8. Arithmetic average roughness Ra on the surface of the external-light decreasing film 7 in contact with the insulating layer 8 is larger than that Ra on the surface of the first electrode 5.
