To obtain an image in a condition that brightness of respective parts is natural even in flash photography.
The camera apparatus includes a main photographing block 11a and a sub photographing block 11b which include an optical system and an imaging system respectively, and obtains a stereoscopic image constituted of a pair of photographic images where parallax exists when flash photography. An image processing part 17 obtains distances to the respective parts of a subject in a viewing angle based on the obtained stereoscopic image. Based on the obtained distances, all the area of an image, aiming at one of the photographic images constituting the stereoscopic image, is divided into a plurality of subject areas having the same distance from the camera, and luminance of a pixel included in the subject area is corrected in accordance with the distance from the camera. In such a case, the luminance of the pixel included in the subject area at a foreground part of a principal subject is decreased and the luminance of the pixel included in the subject area at a background part of the principal subject is increased, so as to improve luminance saturation at the foreground part and pitch-black at the background part.
