To accurately perform determination of backlight even when distribution of a histogram of an entire screen is close to a backlight state to be detected essentially in a high-contrast photographic scene erroneously determined as a backlight state.
An image processor includes: a means for acquiring luminance information of a photographic image from an image signal of a taken image; a means for generating a luminance histogram from the acquired luminance information; and a means for setting a plurality of thresholds to a low-luminance area of the generated luminance histogram, also setting a weighting factor corresponding to each of the plurality of set thresholds, and calculating a backlight evaluated value for determining the backlight state from the luminance histogram based on the plurality of set thresholds and the set weighting factor.
