To provide an imaging apparatus capable of accurately obtaining an exposure state of object luminance, which is obtained by an exposure control value set when a user sets an exposure control value for moving picture photography or still image photography.

The imaging apparatus includes an operation means (203) for setting an exposure control value, an acquisition means (39) for acquiring object luminance obtained by an exposure control value set by the operation means, a determination means (39) for determining whether the object luminance obtained by the acquisition means is appropriate exposure or not, a setting means (39) for setting an appropriate exposure range which is determined as the appropriate exposure by the determination means, and a display means (25) for displaying an index indicating the determination result of the determination means. The setting means changes the appropriate exposure range according to: a case in which the determination means determines the object luminance obtained by the exposure control value set for moving picture photography; or a case in which the determination means determines the object luminance obtained by the exposure control value set for still image photography.
