To provide an imaging apparatus in which when an interchangeable lens is detached while the motion picture being displayed on the liquid crystal monitor, display free from erroneous recognition that display failure is caused by trouble of the imaging device or the imaging apparatus itself is made on the liquid crystal monitor, and accordingly, an image based on subject light directly made incident on the imaging device is prevented from being displayed on the liquid crystal monitor on the back.
An imaging apparatus has: an attachment/detachment means 150 which can attach/detach the interchangeable lens 200; a detection means 140 for detecting whether the interchangeable lens 200 is attached to the attachment/detachment means 150; an imaging device 110 for producing an image signal based on the subject light; a display means 120 for displaying an image based on the image signal; and a control means 140 for displaying the image based on the image signal on the display means 120 when the detection means 140 detects attachment of the interchangeable lens 200, and displaying an indication corresponding to luminance of the image signal on the display means 120 when the detection means 140 does not detect the attachment of the interchangeable lens 200.
