To provide an insulating coating material which has good adhesion with a conductor, exhibits good appearance even if it is subjected to high speed baking at a high temperature; and to provide an insulated electric cable.
The insulating coating material is obtained by dissolving a polyamideimide resin in an organic solvent containing 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone. In the insulating coating material, the weight average molecular weight of the polyamideimide resin may be 20,000-30,000. Since 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone is incorporated in the organic solvent, the evaporation rate of the solvent in the insulating coating material is lower than that of a solvent in a conventional insulating coating material in a temperature range of 50-120°C that is estimated to be the temperature range of the cable from which the solvent evaporates in a baking furnace, and hardening of the surface of the coating film of the coating material is thereby extremely inhibited. Accordingly, a smooth insulating coating film free of foaming and wrinkles is obtained.
