To provide a word book system with which appropriate translations for words are easily selected.

The word book system (100) providing translations to given words includes: a storage means (560) for storing words, purpose tags, and translations in a mutually associated state; a word input means (520) for inputting given words; a use tag selection means (530) for selecting use tags related to the words inputted; and a translation retrieval means (550) for retrieving translations by using the words inputted by the word input unit from the storage unit and the use tags selected by the use tag selection unit. The use tags represent the uses of the corresponding words and classify the translations for the words according to the uses. This makes it possible to set the meanings of the words for different uses and enables the user to flexibly determine the classifications of the uses.
