Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a composition for water based coatings, containing modified starch excellent in water resistance, solvent resistance and mechanical characteristics, wherein the modified starch is stably dispersed and the composition is produced at a low cost, has large contribution to reduce environmental load and is excellent in coating performance.SOLUTION: The method for producing the composition for water based coatings includes a modified starch-generating step for generating the modified starch by substituting a part of hydroxyl groups in the starch with a radically polymerizable functional group. More precisely, the method for producing the composition for water based coatings includes a step for generating a starch derivative-containing water-based emulsion by emulsion polymerization of the modified starch and the radically polymerizable monomer in a water-based solvent.
