Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize damage to a solid polymer electrolyte membrane and firmly join gas diffusion layers and the solid polymer electrolyte membrane.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an electrolyte membrane electrode assembly 10 includes the steps of: forming a first resin-impregnated portion 28a on an outer edge of a first gas diffusion layer 27a and then performing an outer edge trimming process on the outer edge of the first gas diffusion layer 27a; integrating the first gas diffusion layer 27a, a first electrode catalyst layer 23a, a solid polymer electrolyte membrane 18, a second electrode catalyst layer 23b, and a second gas diffusion layer 27b with a second resin-impregnated portion 28b formed thereon; and performing an outer edge trimming process on an outer edge of the second gas diffusion layer 27b.
