Abstract:
Provided is a power converter which is more highly efficient than conventional. A superconducting power converter comprises two half elements each having a switching means for making switching so that at least one of a plurality of superconducting elements arranged parallel is in a superconducting state and at least one of the other superconducting elements is in a non-superconducting state. A load is connected between the first and second half elements, and a power supply voltage is applied between the common terminals of the first and second half elements. The resistance value of each of the plurality of superconducting elements in the non-superconducting state is set larger than that of the load. Switching is made by the switching means at a timing determined by the combination of the type of the power supply voltage and the type of the current to be drawn out at the load, and thereby power conversion between the power supply voltage and the load is carried out.
