Abstract:
Provided is a low-cost optical cable having excellent heat resistance, which satisfies flame retardancy and low temperature characteristics required for sheaths of optical cables by using a polypropylene-based material that scarcely deteriorates optical fibers. An optical cable (10) wherein optical fibers (11, 12) are covered by a sheath (16) which is configured of a resin composition that contains 55-120 parts by mass of a metal hydrate, 30-50 parts by mass of a bromine-based organic flame retardant and 5-17.5 parts by mass of antimony trioxide per 100 parts by mass of a polymer component that is mainly composed of a polypropylene, while containing 17.5-27.5% by mass of a styrene elastomer.
