PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device that can prevent a reduction in image quality due to heat of a light source even when installed to irradiate a document located below with light.SOLUTION: An image reading device (200) includes: a light emitting element (261); a long-shape light guide member (262) that guides light from the light emitting element made incident on an end face and emits the light from a lateral face toward a sheet located below; an optical system (270) that includes mirrors (271 to 275) reflecting light reflected on the sheet and a lens (276) converging the light; a light detection part (280) the detects the converged light; and a housing (210) that holds the light guide member, optical system, and light detection part.
