Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel engine capable of achieving both of reduction of a cooling loss and improvement of miscibility of fuel spray and air, by improving fluidity of the air in a cavity without strengthening penetration of the fuel spray.SOLUTION: A diesel engine (1) has a cylinder head (6) covering one end of a cylinder (2), a piston (10) including a crown surface (10a), and a fuel injection valve (34) mounted on the cylinder head. In the cylinder head, intake ports (18, 20) are formed so as to generate a swirl flow in the cylinder. On the crown surface of the piston, a cavity (12) having a circular shape in a plan view, which is recessed to a side opposite to the cylinder head, and a cutout portion (64) recessed to a radial outer side of the piston from a peripheral edge of the cavity, are formed. In the fuel injection valve, injection holes (56) directed to the inside of the cavity are formed. The cutout portion is formed of a bottom face (64a) extended in a circumferential direction of the piston, and a side face (64b) extended to a radial inner side of the piston, and a roundness diameter D of a corner portion (64c) connecting the bottom face and the side face is 5 mm or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
