Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for manufacturing a multi-core fiber capable of reducing variation in optical signals between cores and suppressing dark defects in a plastic image fiber.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a multi-core fiber comprises: the bundle preform formation step S12 of inserting a primary single core fiber having a core covered with a cladding layer into the hollow part of a cladding pipe consisting of the same material as the cladding layer to obtain a bundle preform; the cleaning step S13 of pressing and sending a liquid in spaces between a plurality of primary single core fibers in the bundle preform and the cladding pipe to clean them; and the multi-core fiber formation step S14 of heating and drawing the tip portion of the bundle preform in a reduced pressure atmosphere to form a multi-core fiber having a cladding and a plurality of cores formed in the cladding.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
