Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently reduce the pressure in a gap between a clad preform and each core preform in manufacturing a multicore fiber preform while increasing joint strength between the clad preform and a cylindrical member.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a multicore fiber preform includes: a preparation process of preparing a clad preform having a plurality of through holes, extending in a longer direction of a columnar glass preform, in the glass preform; a connection process of connecting the cylindrical member to one end part of the clad preform coaxially with the clad preform; and an insertion process of inserting core performs into the plurality of through holes of the clad preform, respectively. The inner diameter of the cylindrical member is smaller than the diameter of a circumscribed circle of the through hole positioned on an outermost circumferential side among the plurality of through holes formed in the clad preform, and in the preparation process, the clade preform has a communication structure formed to allow the inside of the cylindrical member to communicate with a through hole overlapping with at least a part of the cylindrical member in top face view among the plurality of through holes.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
