Abstract:
Provided are: a diamond substrate having no conjoint boundary and no limit of usable area, and having a diagonal length of 50.8 mm or greater or a diameter of 2 inches or greater; and a method for manufacturing the same. In the present invention, one or a plurality of base substrates comprising a diamond single crystal are prepared, a plurality of columnar diamonds comprising diamond single crystals are formed on one face of the base substrate, diamond single crystals are grown from the distal ends of the columnar diamonds, the diamond single crystals grown from the distal ends of the columnar diamonds are caused to coalesce and form a diamond substrate layer, the diamond substrate layer is separated from the base substrate, and a diamond substrate is manufactured from the diamond substrate layer, whereby the diamond substrate is formed from a diamond single crystal, the shape of the diamond substrate in the surface direction thereof is configured as square, circular, or circular and provided with an orientation-flat face, the length of the diagonal in the case of a square shape is 50.8 mm or greater, and the diameter in the case of a circular shape is 2 inches or greater.
