PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment paste and a coating material which are excellent in pigment dispersibility, solvent resistance or the like in high pigment concentration.SOLUTION: Provided is a pigment paste comprising: a dispersion resin (A) including a sulfonic acid-modified polyvinyl alcohol resin (A1); a pigment (B); and a solvent (C), in which the sulfonic acid-modified polyvinyl alcohol resin (A1) includes a sulfonic acid group-containing polymeric unsaturated monomer by 0.1 to 10 mass%.
