Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical element that hardly causes optical loss.SOLUTION: An electro-optical element includes: a substrate; a waveguide layer including organic polymer material having an electro-optical effect as formation material and provided with an optical waveguide; a grounding electrode provided between the substrate and the waveguide layer; a band-like signal electrode provided on the waveguide layer; and a stress relaxation layer provided between the signal electrode and the waveguide layer. The signal electrode overlaps with part of the optical waveguide viewed from above. The stress relaxation layer is at least provided in a region where the signal electrode overlaps with the optical waveguide viewed from above. A coefficient of thermal expansion of formation material of the stress relaxation layer is larger than a coefficient of thermal expansion of formation material of the waveguide layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
