PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet protecting cosmetic which has a high ultraviolet protection effect, is excellent in aging stability of a preparation, gives no creaky feeling during application and is excellent in transparency after application.SOLUTION: There is provided an oil-in-water type emulsion composition which comprises the following components (A) to (G), wherein the mass ratio, (E)/[(C)+(F)] of the component (E) to the total amount of the component (C) and the component (F) is 0.1 or more and 1.0 or less: (A) a water-swellable clay mineral, (B) an anionic surfactant, (C) a nonionic surfactant, (D) a hydrophilic ultraviolet scattering agent, (E) a fatty acid, (F) cholesterol and/or phytosterol and (G) water.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
