To efficiently set a unique device identifier for each of a plurality of slave devices.SOLUTION: A setting apparatus which sets a unique device identifier for each of a plurality of devices connected to a bus comprises: a selection operation command transmission unit which transmits via the bus a selection operation command for setting the plurality of devices in a selection waiting mode; a selecting circuit which selects a target device to be set with the device identifier from the plurality of devices in the selection waiting mode; and an identifier setting command transmission unit which transmits via the bus an identifier setting command for setting the unique device identifier for the target device.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
