Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermally-responsive light control element that does not require a transparent electrode and application of an electric field, can easily increase the area, can be manufactured as a simple device at a low cost, and can reduce energy consumption, and a light control glass using the same.SOLUTION: A light control element (1) uses a liquid crystal composition (2) exhibiting a reentrant nematic phase. The liquid crystal composition (2) preferably further exhibits a smectic A phase; the phase transition temperature from the smectic A phase to the reentrant nematic phase is preferably 10 to 50°C; and the light control element preferably includes two substrates (3, 4) having a cell gap (d) of 3 to 300 μm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
