Abstract:
To provide a low-cost production method of an optical fiber that can suppress degradation of location accuracy of a core and a low refractive index part and is suitable for elongation and improvement of productivity.SOLUTION: An optical fiber includes a plurality of core parts, a clad part, a low refraction index part that has a lower refractive index than the clad part and is arranged between the nearest neighboring core parts among a plurality of the core parts in the clad part. A production method of the optical fiber has the following steps. A plurality of core rods having a core forming part to become the core part and a low refractive index member to become the low refractive index part are arranged in a glass pipe to become a part of the clad part. Fine particles of glass are filled in a gap between the glass pipe, a plurality of the core rods and the low refractive index member. After the gap in which the fine particles of glass are filled is vacuumed, the glass pipe, a plurality of the core rods, the low refractive index member, and the fine particles of glass are melted by heating to sinter the fine particles of glass and then the glass fiber is drawn.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
