Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to the production of red blood cells from hematopoietic stem cells, by differentiating such cells in the presence of a protein that induces cell survival and proliferation. It also discloses a method for extending the half-life of a population of mature red blood cells in vitro comprising maintaining a population of such red blood cells in a culture media comprising an exogenous polypeptide comprising one or more Bcl-2 homology domains.
