Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0216722
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE:A catalyst composition with which a vinyl compound can be polymerized rapidly at a relatively low temperature in the presence of a compound having a carboxylic acid (anhydride) group, obtained by mixing a transition metal carboxylate with an amine and a sulfinate. CONSTITUTION:The purpose catalyst composition is formed by mixing a tansition metal carboxylate (e.g., copper caprylate or manganese naphthanate) with an amine (e.g., triethylamine or N,N-dimethylaniline) and a sulfinate (e.g., sodium benzenesufinate or sodium p-toluenesulfinate). A polymer suitable for adhesives, etc., can be obtained in good efficiency by polymerizing a vinyl compound (e.g., methyl acrylate or styrene) in the presence of a compound having carboxylic acid (anhydride) group (e.g., acrylic acid or a styrene/maleic acid compolymer) by using the above catalyst composition.
