Abstract:
The additional protection circuit (24) connects between the generator positive output terminal and the negative field winding terminal. The unit (24) comprises a polarity check diode (27), a Zener diode (26) and a fuse (25) in series across the main terminals. The Zener acts as a spike clipper. The polarity check diode blows the fuse if the unit is incorrectly connected. The fuse also blows on sustained over-voltage. Interruption by the fuse opens the generator field circuit. A resistor (32) and routing diode (29, 31) circuit may be included with a l.e.d. (33) to give visual indication when the protection circuit fuse has operated.
