Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make the start of an internal-combustion engine ever so smooth as well as to make improvements in fuel consumption, by using a water-cooled intercooler and an air-cooled intercooler in combination. CONSTITUTION:When atmospheric temperature in charged air 1 is high, this charged air 1 is heat-exchanged at an air-cooled intercooler 2 where internal- combustion engine cooling water is circulated inside. A damper 5a for bypass use is opened while another damper 5b for other bypass use is closed whereby the charged air 1 is circulated in a U-shaped form inside a tube 7 of an air- cooled intercooler 3 and led into a charged air passage 4. On the other hand, when temperature in the charged air 1 is low, the damper 5a for bypass use is closed while the damper 5b for other bypass use is opened. For this reason, the charged air 1 is preheated inside the water-cooled intercooler 2 by means of the internal-combustion engine cooling water being high as compared with the outside air and directly led into the charged air passage 4.
