A photographic element containing a polymer comprising a recurring unit of general formula (I) and at least one recurring unit selected from the group of units of general formulae (II), (III) and IV) (I) wherein R1, R2 and R3 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; L represents a divalent linking group of 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and m is 0 or 1; (II) wherein R1a represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R4 is an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group; and n is 0 or 1; (III) wherein R1a is as defined in general formula (II); R5 and R6 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group; and p and q each is equal to 0 or 1; and (IV) wherein R1a is as defined in general formula (II); and D is a divalent linking group necessary for the formation of a 5- to 7-membered ring with the nitrogen atom and carbonyl group.
