Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful in wide fields as a surfactant while suppressing the generation of odor caused by aging, by adding lactic acid and/or a lactic acid salt to a secondary alcohol ethoxylate and sulfating the ethoxylate. CONSTITUTION:Lactic acid and/or a lactic acid salt (e.g. sodium lactate) are added to a secondary alcohol ethoxylate produced by adding ethylene oxide to a secondary alcohol or a secondary alcohol low-molar ethoxylate. The amount of addition is 5-0.001pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the secondary alcohol ethoxylate and the pH of the aqueous solution is adjusted to 4-9. The ethoxylate is made to react with a sulfating agent such as chlorosulfonic acid at <=40 deg.C to obtain the objective compound. The amount of the sulfating agent is 0.5-2.0mol per 1mol of the secondary alcohol ethoxylate.
