Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide an aq. pigment dispersion having excellent dispersibility and dispersion stability, by using a specified comb type polymer composed of a hydrophilic main chain and hydrophobic side chains as a dispersant. CONSTITUTION:3-97pts.wt. C9-C25 monocarboxylic acid vinyl ester and/or C8-C24 monoalcohol (A) (e.g. vinyl stearate or lauryl acrylate), 2-97pts.wt. alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated nitrogen-contg. monomer (B) (e.g. 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone), 0.5-20pts.wt. ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid (C) (e.g. acrylic acid) and 0-91pts.wt. other alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated monomer (D) (e.g. methyl acrylate) are radical-copolymerized. The resulting copolymer having a number-average MW of 500-150,000 is made water-soluble and used as a dispersant. A mixture of a pigment and the dispersant are dispersed in an aq. medium by using a ball mill to obtain an aq. pigment dispersion.
