Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0550338
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the thermal expansion coefficient and to enhance the resistance to thermal shock of the titled catalytic body by depositing a catalytic component on a cordierite ceramic honeycomb structure which has been treated with an acid and then heat-treated at 600-1,000 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:A cordierite ceramic honeycomb structure is treated with an acid. In the acid treatment, a mineral acid such as HCl and H2SO4 is preferably used in consideration of the cost, a 1-5N acid is used and the treatment is preferably carried out at about 50-100 deg.C. Consequently, a structure having >=5m<2>/g specific surface, >=100kg/cm<2> compressive strength and <=1.0X10<-6>/ deg.C thermal expansion coefficient at 40-80 deg.C is obtained. The structure is heat- treated at 600-1,000 deg.C and then a metallic catalytic component such as Pt, Pd and Rh is deposited. Meanwhile, the catalytic component can be deposited after acid treatment, then the structure is heat-treated at 600-1,000 deg.C and the same objective can be achieved.
