Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the electric resistance and to improve the traveling performance and the magnetic characteristics over a wide zone by using iron carbide as the principal component of the first magnetic layer and magnetic powder of barium ferrite as the principal component of the second magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A layer contg. iron carbide as the principal component is formed on a nonmagnetic base body 3 as a first magnetic layer 1 having an axis of easy magnetization in the intrasurface direction of the base body 3. A layer contg. magnetic powder of barium ferrite as the principal component is then formed as a second magnetic layer 2 having an axis of easy magnetization in the perpendicular direction of the base body 3. Since iron carbide excellent at low frequency and barium ferrite excellent at high frequency are used, the magnetic characteristics of the resulting magnetic recording medium can be improved over a wide zone. Iron carbide has low electric resistance and superior light shielding property, so the traveling performance can be improved and the addition of a special colorant is not required.
