Abstract:
A magnetic tape cassette 10, for use in a magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus, comprises a lower casing 18 accommodating reels 12, 14 wound with magnetic tape 16 and having walls 26 to confine the reels. Lower casing 18 is provided on its bottom panel 22 with a first 38 and one or more second 40, 42 longitudinal reinforcement ribs. First rib 38 is located just above a longitudinal groove 28 recessed onto the opposite surface of the bottom panel to guide the cassette during side loading. A pair of circular ribs 34, 36 extend upwardly between the first 38 and the second 40, 42 ribs to reinforce two circular openings 30, 32 positioned in alignment with the reels. The reinforcement ribs allow the bottom panel 22 to be thinner, to thereby reduce the weight of the lower cassette casing 18 and improve the manufacturing efficiency of the magnetic tape cassette 10, and are planar to support the reels.
