Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a flexible water repellent sintered substrate by impregnating polytetrafluoroethylene in boids of carbon paper, and finely cutting carbon fibers by which the carbon paper is constituted, and impregnating polytetra fluoroethylene in cut parts. CONSTITUTION:Carbon paper is treated with polytetrafluoroethylene and sintered then rolled. By the process, carbon fibers are finely cut and practically all of or at least one of boids of cut carbon fibers forms the structure impregnated with polytetrafluoroethylene. Preferably, the number of cut parts of carbon fiber are 50-150 per 1mm<2>. Small number of cut parts result in less flexibility and large number of cut parts result in weak mechanical strength. Polytetra fluoroethylene is preferably impregnated in all cut parts or at least 1/3 of total cut parts of carbon fibers.
