Abstract:
Ethylene-higher alpha olefin-diene terpolymers can be improved in processing properties and compound vulcanizate physical properties by properly selecting their composition and intermolecular compositional distribution with respect to ethylene and diene content and their molecular weight and molecular weight distribution. Such terpolymers have lower molecular weight fractions of 10<4> to 5 x 10<5> with a diene content of 1.5 to 10 wt%, being at least 2 times the diene content of the higher molecular weight fractions, and an ethylene content of 30-80 wt%. The higher molecular weight fractions of 2 x 10<5> to 10<7> have a higher ethylene content than the lower molecular weight fractions, 0 to 5wt% diene and are less than 90 wt% ethylene. The MWDs of the fractions are independently from 2.0 to 6.5.
