Abstract:
R1CH22CN2l and R1l present in sufficient quantities so as to cause discoloration of R1CH2CH2OH or products made from it are reacted with an excess of an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide and a C1-C3 alcohol in a closed vessel at a temperature above 80 DEG C until neither of said iodides can be detected in said final product. NaOH and isopropanol at 100 DEG -115 DEG C are preferred.
