PURPOSE:To inexpensively produce high-quality granular slag free from repeated fusing in high yield, by making molten slag fly in a water mist atmosphere, granulating, dispersing, dropping in a water reservoir and quenching. CONSTITUTION:Molten slag 1a produced by metal smelting is dropped from a pot C through a hopper (d) and a conduit 3 on rotary drums 10a and 10b having a radiated blade 10' on the outer periphery, granulated, dispersed, the direction of the slag is changed by a fly control plate 23 set above drums 10a and 10b and introduced into a rotary hood 11 which is rotated through a motor 22 and a gear 22' while vertically moving and is slant downward at the right. The slag is brought into contact with water mist jetted from nozzles 13 set at both front sides of the drum 10b and a the inside of the upper opening of the hood 11, cooled, sent through a through hole 19 to a granular slag collecting pipe 18 of ring shape set at the rear outer periphery of the hood 11 and discharged from an outlet 20 on a belt conveyor 21.
