Abstract:
PURPOSE:To compensate the volume contracted portion of a lead alloy and prevent the coagulation cracking by increasing the clamping force of a clamp device prior to solidification of the fused lead alloy after the electrification to a pair of electrodes is stopped to increase the pressure in the connecting part between cells. CONSTITUTION:A pair of electrodes 2a, 2b are electrified in the state where cell connecting parts 15, 16 are in contact to each other to perform resistance welding. At this time, the lead alloy close to the contact parts is welded to fulfill the through hole of a non-conductive bulkhead 14, and then the electrification is stopped. Simultaneously, a solenoid valve 12 is opened, and a high air pressure is supplied to a diaphragm cylinder 4 to increase the clamping force of a clamp device 1. Thus, the pressure of electrode holding bodies 3a, 3b is increased to partly push the connecting parts 15, 16 into the through hole. Consequently, the volume contraction at the time of solidification of the fused lead alloy is compensated. Hence, the coagulation cracking caused by the contraction of the lead alloy can be prevented.
