Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst having improved heat resistance by allowing a catalyst composition to be carried on a carrier comprised of a mixture of precursor consisting of a compound oxide of aluminium with one kind among La, Nd, and Pr, which is transformed to rare earth element beta-alumina by heating. CONSTITUTION:Alkali is added to a solution contg. a mixture of aluminum salt and at least one kind of salt of elements selected from La, Nd, and Pr to cause coprecipitation from the mixture. The coprecipitate is separated and molded to several shapes. The coprecipitate consists of a compound oxide of Al and said rare earth element(s). The compound oxide is calcined to a pecursor or a mixture of the precursor which can be transformed to rare earth element beta-alumina by heating at 1,000 deg.C for <=2hr, having at least >=10m<2>/g specific surface area. By using the calcined product as carrier, a catalyst stable at high temp. is obtd.
