Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for producing isocyanate efficiently, industrially and advantageously without causing toxicity and by-products, by using an inexpensive catalytic system consisting essentially of copper and reacting a primary amine with CO and molecular oxygen, etc. CONSTITUTION:A primary amine (e.g. aniline or 1,2-diaminobenzene) is reacted with carbon monoxide, molecular oxygen and a hydroxyl group-containing organic compound (e.g. methanol, ethanol or n-propanol) in the presence of a catalytic system comprising one selected from copper and a copper-containing compound (e.g. copper iodide or copper bromide) and one halogen selected from I, Cl and Br to give urethane and a carbonic acid ester. Since the catalyst is a simple system and contains no different metal, the catalyst is smoothly recovered and reused and this process is advantageous.
