Abstract:
A signal transmitted using an oscillator is received after reflection from the obstruction. The transmitted and received signals are mixed to derive in-phase and quadrature signals which are processed into output signals for distance and relative speed. During a first measurement, the oscillator is driven with bursts of linearly-increasing frequency and with a number of bursts matching the required resolution. In a second measurement, the oscillator is driven with a linearly reducing frequency. A complex sample value is taken at the end of each reflected burst and mixed with the transmitted transmission signal burst to obtain further values. In a third measurement, the oscillator produces equal frequency bursts and a further complex value taken and distance and speed values derived. The intercept of three curves produced by Fourier transformation indicates a potential obstruction. A fourth measurement is made to eliminate ghost objects.
