Abstract:

A process for the production of difluoromethane which comprises contacting formaldehyde with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a catalyst and a chemical dehydrating agent at a temperature below 150 DEG C. Preferably BF3 is employed as both catalyst and dehydrating agent.
