Date Apr. 11, 1996An aqueous solution of poly(N-vinyl-+531 -caprolactam) is prepared by polymerizing N-vinyl-+531 -caprolactam in an aqueous medium in the presence of a polymerization initiator and from 0.1 to 20% by weight, based on the monomer used, of a water-soluble polymeric protective colloid and is useful as a textile printing adhesive, as a raw material for adhesives, as a lubricant additive, as a cosmetic formulation aid, as a detergent additive and as an opacifier in automatic shading systems.
