Abstract:
The invention concerns a method of sorting mail by means of a sorting machine, the sorting machine having conveyor means and a multiplicity of compartments, disposed in rows, in which the mail is placed in accordance with predefined sorting criteria, more than one comparment being associated with each of a predetermined number of mail destinations. For the mail for each destination, with which more than one compartment is associated, the invention calls for the mail to be sorted into compartments F1, ..., Fn in accordance with the following strategy: the mail is placed in compartment F1 until the mail in this compartment reaches a given level, as soon as this level is reached, the mail is placed in compartment F2, the same procedure is repeated for each subsequent compartment Fi, as soon as the level of mail in compartment Fn reaches a given level, a signal is generated for the operator to empty compartments F1 to Fn.
