Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS3626017
Kind Code:
Y1
Abstract:
907,086. Automatic voltage control systems for alternators. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. April 4, 1960 [April 13, 1959], No. 11766/60. Classes 35 and 38 (4). In order to limit the torque required to drive an alternator under short circuit conditions, the field excitation of the alternator varying directly with alternator load current, the field current is limited. The main alternator 10, driven by a prime-mover 24 is excited by the rectified output of an alternator 20, which in turn is excited by the rectified combined outputs of potential transformers 74, 76, 78 and current transformers 102, 104, 106 energized by the main alternator 10. A 3-phase self-saturating transductor 60 is connected between the field of the alternator 20 and the transformers. In addition to the load windings 132 and fixed bias windings 182, the transductor 60 has control windings 170 energized from a voltage measuring bridge 50 connected across the output of the main alternator 10 so as to normally maintain the output voltage constant. However, a fourth set of windings 150 are energized to reduce the excitation current when this current is large enough for the voltage drop across a series resistor 27 (or across the field itself, Fig. 2 (not shown)) to break down a Zener diode 88.
