Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4410076
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,032,317. Generators operating by electro-magnetic interaction with fluids. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Nov. 6, 1964 [Nov. 27, 1963], No. 45339/64. Heading H2A. In an M.H.D. generator parallel combustion zones extending between the opposed electrodes are produced by non-homogeneously injecting additional fuel/oxidant as necessary to complete the combustion of the working gas into the generator duct. In the construction shown electrode segments 20, 22 confront each other across duct 16 through which working fluid flows in the presence of magnetic field 18. The ionized working fluid comprises combustion products including an excess of one of the combustion agents (fuel or air) into which the other agent (air or fuel) 36 is injected from struts 28, in a plane extending across the duct and spaced from the side walls, to produce burning 38 around the jet and thereby providing a high conductivity path extending between the electrodes; the quantity of material injected being sufficient to provide burning along the working length of the duct. In a modification the struts may be replaced by a series of jet nozzles spaced apart along the length of the duet where the downstream nozzles inject a lesser quantity of material to provide the required level of combustion along the duct.
