Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4540378
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,208,150. Recovering lead from scrap. M. SCHOELD. July 11, 1968 [July 20, 1967], No.33194/68. Heading C7D. Materials are recovered from the scrap from lead-acid storage batteries containing lead foil, cellulosic paper, sulphuric acid and lead oxide and/or lead sulphate by feeding the scrap to a reaction zone, in the substantial absence of Sb, where they are heated (e.g. by electric resistance heating) to reduce the lead compounds and dissociate the H2 SO4 , the reaction zone being shielded from the entry of oxidizing gases and molten lead being withdrawn at one exit and a gaseous mixture of H2O, CO2 and SO3 at another. The amount of carbon in the paper in the scrap is preferably stoichiometric to reduce the lead compounds.
