Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4831163
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,208,797. Hydraulic turbines; axial-flow fans. COOLING DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. March 18, 1969 [April 5, 1968], No.16451/68. Headings F1C and F1T . An axial-flow contra-rotating fan unit comprises fan rotor 5, 11 mounted within a duct 12 and driven through concentric inner and outer shafts 1, 6 respectively by a water turbine A. The latter comprises substantially tangential nozzles 4 mounted on a hollow part 1b of the shaft 1 to the interior of which water is supplied through a pipe 1d having a rotary seal 1c, the water issuing through the nozzles 4 to impinge upon blades 10 attached to shaft 6 by a member 9. Thus nozzles 4 and blades 10 rotate in opposite directions to drive their respective shafts 1, 6 and fans 5, 11. In the arrangement shown, a housing 13 supports shaft 6 by bearings 14, 15 and the shaft 6 supports inner shaft 1 by bearings 7, 8, but in a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), shaft 1 is supported at its opposite ends in bearings (2, 3) and in turn supports outer shaft 6. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), both shafts are supported from an inner concentric fixed member (16), a portion (16a) of which is hollow to allow the passage of water to the interior of shaft 1 and to nozzles 4. The fan unit may be mounted with its axis vertical and used to supply air or gas to a water cooling tower or a heat-exchanger.
